A not so expected San Diego weekend

A great weekend that was beyond expectation!

Friday was nothing terribly significant, I worked at the dive side on Thursday under the hot LA sun and felt pretty terrible physically and mentally on Friday when Matt and Anne’s house hold goods showed up. So I helped unpack a great many packages, trying to make sense of the chaos that is moving… jesus I hope I never have the amount of stuff they have in my life.

Saturday was amazing. Steven C. came down from Long Beach for a night of debauchery and it went so damn smoothly. Before the evening unraveled Steven and I shared a beer on the deck in the backyard and we spoke about his thoughts on his life’s progression. Honestly I feel awkward for saying I’m proud of him as he’s far more talented than I am, but damnit it’s so great to hear that he’s moving on and starting a new life on the east coast with an imminent move to New York. I wish the absolute best for him, my dear dear friend whom I’ve felt I’ve seemed to know for ages. I always knew he was going to do something great, and while I’ll admit the art and music he’s done is that, I know he has so much more drive, creativity, and potential… it excites me.

I called Ashley T. who told us to meet her at Ocean Beach with a handful of my highschool friends I haven’t seen in over six years. So Steven got to La Mesa a bit earlier than anticipated, whereupon we traveled to the Tower Bar (my new favorite bar ever) for a Pacifico. From there we traveled to Ocean Beach or OB as the cool kids call it, to Nick’s at the pier. We caught the very last of the most important fight in the UFC… which as most everyone knows Frank Mir (sadly) got the living shit beat out of him. At the line into the bar I saw my old friends Aaron and Favio, and when we actually got in Chris and Ashley. It was an amazing reunion that I never ever thought I’d be excited about, but goddamnit it felt great to see familiar faces and talk about the past with those amazing people… I really do love my friends. An hour or so later Nick joined us, my dear friend from numerous classes in H.S. who informed me he was going to be moving to the Caribbean the next month, which is insanely awesome to a fellow rambler as myself, and truthfully made me quite envious.

From there we transferred to bars in OB and ended up running into an Irish group (guy and girl) which Steven and I almost immediately befriended. We spent the rest of the night dancing, talking, and talking about Irish and American stereotypes and cliches until we were all laughing very hard. I was very glad to lure us foursome into a  free picture taking promotion by Svedka vodka where all of us got two 4×6 photos of an interestingly amusing night on the town in San Diego. Fortunately, I got the gentleman’s number and I promised to take them out, which I’m very excited about, just for the simple fact that they’ve experienced their fair share of stupid Americans in their country… I wanna try my best at redeeming that.

Steven and I completed the night with a nightcap at the Tower Bar, and an early breakfast at Denny’s… truly a wondrous evening of epic proportions! A very good night, I love meeting new people, re uniting with old friends, hanging out with my Motherbird counterparts, enjoying strong drink, and intelligent conversation.
